Horror Movie Marathon 2019

Oh man, it’s September 30th 2019 which is the official launch of Horror Movie Marathon! That’s right suckers! Thirty one days of pure horror movie enthusiasm and chaos. Just thirty one movies to make your horror season a little more exciting.

While everyone else is getting jolly with Hocus Pocus and A Nightmare Before Christmas. Us horror fans are coming into our domain of slaughter and blood! We gather together to testify of the greatness of Carpenter and Raimi. We give homage to those that bring us delight like Krueger and Myers. The common horror tropes are our doctrine to the genre and they warm us like a blanket fresh out of a dryer. This is our time of year to shine. To delight in a moment when our love for monster clowns and killing toys are seen as normal. Just thirty one days when society nods in subtle approval. Bring it on!

In Other News

I’ve got to be honest, 2019 has been a pretty miserable year for horror movies. The Child’s Play remake was so disappointing and I couldn’t for the life of me enjoy IT: Chapter 2. What a long ass pile of shit movie that was. Like riding a roller coaster and on each drop you are hit in the face with a pie made of elephant shit and topped with whipped donkey jiz! But you know what really bugs me? IT: Chapter 2 gets all this love while a movie like Midsommar gets nothing! That’s bull shit! Have you seen Midsommar? Have you even heard of it? Probably not because Hollywood sucks.

But then again, the streaming channel Shudder is absolutely killing it. Joe Bob Briggs has done a few marathons and each one is amazing. For anyone that remembers when TNT didn’t suck balls! Joe Bob was something we grew accustomed to. I loved Monstervision and Joe Bob was like a cool uncle you only got to see a few times a year.

One of my most favorite parts of his marathons is not only the movie selections, but the rants Joe Bob goes on. He has so much insight to every movie. Like a wizard for horror history and lore. That Phantasm series was so awesome that I binged watched it in one night. But at one point up to Phantasm 2, Joe Bob explains how it is his least favorite of the films because the Cuda that Reggie drives is destroyed. Only Joe Bob could point out something like that! Its why he’s the ultimate horror movie host!

Shudder has brought back Creepshow in a show format and so far I’m enjoying it. Although, they’re releasing every episode on a week to week basis! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? Give us all the episodes Shudder. I don’t have time to wait for next weeks episode. What do you think this is, basic television?

American Horror Story

American Horror Story is back with a series called 1984 and it’s a huge homage to 80s slasher films. I’m not a huge American Horror Story fan but this one seems interesting. It’s a little interesting that they chose to do an 80s series since 80s nostalgia is going bonkers right now. So far we’re in two episodes and it seems a great deal of fun. This past year I’ve rewatched a slew of slasher movies because (I have to be honest) I haven’t always been the biggest slasher genre follower. Theirs just so many slasher films! All of them are the same and most are crap without the effects.

American Horror Story seems to be taking all the common themes we’ve seen over and over again and centering them all together in this one season. Sure it leans more into Friday the 13th and Halloween so far. But I am going to make an educated guess that the show will start pushing itself into a more Sleepaway Camp kind of thing. Call me crazy but something about one of our cultures topics of discussion and Sleepaway Camp seems to be a reason for that kind of move. I don’t want to start some social political debate right now so I will leave it at that.

See You Tomorrow

This is my third year doing a Horror Movie Marathon and I never really prepare myself for it. Which is something I like doing because I would rather have the movies I pick, be ones that come on as a “spur of the moment” collection. It does get hard to praise a film with more than just “this movie is good” or “I like the gore in this one.” A reason why I do my best to try to dig a little deeper in a movie and give some sort of insight to the film that people might find intriguing. These aren’t reviews with a grading system. They’re just movies I deem good. Sure, some might be bigger hitters than others but I generally have a love for each one.

For anyone that is new to my posts and this marathon. Know that I am an avid horror fan and not a professional blogger, writer or whatever people that do this as a career call themselves. This was originally started as a means to find a new hobby. Since my love for horror movies and horror entertainment are pretty big things in my life, I figured I could write about it. Offer a more interesting view to the genre and to the fellow fans that like reading about the movies they love.

Like I said, I’m not a writer. Nor do I do a great deal of research on the films in the marathon. The movies I present are merely ones that I enjoy and think make for a good marathon. I do my best to include the major ages of horror. A few golden age films from the Universal era are always a must for any horror marathon. We will even have a few silver age sci-fi/horror flicks. Usually these are the schlock favorites we all love to jeer and drink over. But they have their place in this broad genre. I’ve never understood how someone can claim to be a fan of horror yet not love the classics. I understand the love for bronze age 80’s films. Personally it is my favorite and we have many of those. But to be as good horror fan requires an appreciation for it and all of its history. Which is why I also mix in some (although limited) 90s and modern movies as well.

Also, since this is the third year of doing this marathon. I will post links in each new daily post of the previous years! So if you want you can get three Horror Movie Marathon movies in one shot! If you were to read and watch every movie with all three marathons, present and past; then that would be ninety three horror films in one month! That would make you some sort of horror ninja!

So I hope you stick around and enjoy the posts! See you tomorrow!

I have also ended up resorting to Shudder for those horror titles for this year’s Halloween marathon (or horror/thrillers in general), at least a part of it. All those indie movies that I didn’t get a chance to watch during the festival runs. Looking forward to see what you end up reviewing! 🙂

      Thanks! Hope you enjoy it.

  2. I’m interested to see which movies you pick. I only wish I had the time to watch more than one movie a week (one I can fully enjoy which isn’t of the variety that the wife wants to watch with me and that my three year old can sit through).
Honestly most of my movies still require my eyes upon them. One day I get around to etching most of them.
    Great post btw.
